I find the microscopic world and the hidden beauty that the eye cannot see fascinating. My current work explores visual allure versus hideous reality. Viruses, such as aids, diseases like cancer, the reality of bioterrorism, and hidden “bugs” loom around affecting our consciousness. The bacteria and viruses that I paint are invisible to the naked eye, but clearly perceptible to the human mind. I am continually interested in exploring the juxtaposition between menacing matters and the exquisiteness of the world in which we live.

The encaustic process is a perfect medium for me to convey the amazing depth and color that is abundant in microscopic life. The excitement is the hidden, the unseen,

the unknown--

always there waiting to be discovered.
